C6 Launch Expands Launch Capabilities in Brazil
Press Releases
April 28, 2021 — The Brazilian Space Agency (Agência Espacial Brasileira; AEB) and Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira, FAB) awarded C6 Launch one of four contracts to bring orbital launches to the Alcântara Space Center located on Brazil’s northern coast situated just two degrees south of the equator. C6 Launch now has access to the widest range of orbital capabilities and strengthens the existing positive relationship between Brazil and Canada in space collaboration.
In an event attended by the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, the Brazilian Space Agency’s President, Carlos Moura, and the Chief of Air Staff, Lieutenant-Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno presented delegates of the selected companies with plaques indicating their achievement. Carlos Moura remarked, “After the ratification of the Technological Safeguards Agreement by the National Congress, this is another great historic step for the development of the Brazilian Space Program, with the objective of making the Alcântara spaceport an international reference for launches from several countries”.
Daniel McCammon, Co-Founder, Executive Director, and VP Engineering of C6 Launch mentioned “We are very excited and honored to bring launch capabilities to the Alcântara region and strengthen the growing relationship between Brazil and Canada. We look forward to growing our presence in the Brazillian space community”.
Alcântara has hosted dozens of launches of unmanned suborbital sounding rockets since its construction began in 1982, however the facility has yet to be used for orbital missions. C6 Launch is determined to take this opportunity to bring such capabilities to Alcântara, while adding more economic value to the region and local communities. C6 Launch’s goal to take advantage of a fully transportable launch vehicle will allow quick integration into Alcântara’s current robust infrastructure, allowing for rapid lead times on launches.
